Our city has undergone some of the needed infrastructure improvements and more are on the way. It is essential we keep our water and sewer lines in proper working condition as well as maintain and improve the roadways, sidewalks, and bike paths. In addition, we need to make sure that none of our neighborhoods are neglected.
The streetscape for the downtown district is long overdue. However, I am concerned about the timelines and in keeping the existing businesses prosperous. City Council needs to make every effort to ensure the following items are discussed before moving forward:
- Have consensus on all the streetscape details before the bid process starts
- Verify businesses will have good access and visibility
- The time frames proposed are scrutinized and realistic
- The engineering plans are clearly understood by all members of council
If anything is overlooked, businesses could close and/or enormous amounts of money could be wasted, due to construction change orders.
